Итак, представляю вам участников тестирования:

Version 4.0 is the fourth major Reason update, featuring new devices and a completely redesigned sequencer along with many other overall improvements.

Так что же обещает нам производитель? Посмотрим:

- Reason uses 32-bit floating point arithmetic for all internal audio operations which ensures the highest possible resolution throughout the signal chain.
- The program supports 16, 20, and 24 bit audio output.
- The program supports sampling frequencies from 22kHz to 96kHz.
- A number of digital audio techniques are implemented that reduce the risk of "aliasing", background noise, unwanted distortion and "zipper noise".
There is no technical reason why this program should not sound as good as or better than dedicated, professional hardware.

Хм... звучит заманчиво.

Thor is an advanced synthesizer with many unique features.
The design could be described as semi-modular, in that the oscillator and filter sections are open slots that allow the user to select between various different oscillator and filter types, each with a distinct character. Some of these designs were inspired by selected vintage equipment.

По мне так примененный алгоритм "тупой как валенок и как кошка драный" )) На 44.1 происходит завал высоких, который правда не спасает полностью от aliasing-а (пример D). Зато хорошо действует метод грубой силы - банальное увеличение частоты дискретизации до 192 (пример A). Большая часть aliasing-а вытесняется в область 22-96k, которая при последующей конвертации вырезается - в чём заслуга Voxengo r8brain, грамотно срезавшего весь мусор находящийся выше 22k.

Легенда эпохи 90-х, когда об идеальных alias-free осцилляторах думали в последнюю очередь. По сравнению с другими производителями Access всегда поражали тем, как они умудрялись впихнуть в один не самый мощный DSP столько всего, что другим было не под силу реализовать используя несколько таких же процессоров. Мало того, с выходом новой OS с каждым разом появлялись всё новые и новые возможности. Чтож, за все нужно платить. Осцилляторы считались (как теперь видно - заслуженно) одним из самых слабых мест Virus. Но с другой стороны, что вы выберите: 16 голосов полифонии при куче возможностей, или 2-3 чистых голоса с биркой "crystal clear" и "alias-free"? Забудьте про это. Нет, не за это мы полюбили злобный Virus!

C - DiscoDSP Discovery 2 (2xoversampling) @ 44.1

Discovery is a virtual analog synthesizer emulation for VST hosts featuring multi-layering, parameter morphing, high-quality sound, and a straightforward interface.

- New crystal clear, true aliasing free oscillators ("...oscillators have been replaced by other ones with alias free and more high end...").
- Anti-aliased Frequency Modulation.

You can also select the oversampling mode. 2X will make Discovery work internally at 88 Khz when your host is set to 44.1 Khz. 2X oversampling is highly recommended. It will affect all active Discovery instances.

Korg’s CMT (Component Modeling Technology) creates virtual instruments that are indistinguishable from the original. CMT takes an organic approach to modeling, duplicating the circuit path of a synthesizer by re-creating each individual component - transistor, capacitor, resistor, etc. CMT’s cloning of the entire instrument ensures that every nuance is replicated.

Единственный пример в котором мало того, что не удалось обойти/обмануть встроенный фильтр, так еще пришлось слегка прибавить высоких встроенным EQ, иначе он своим "аналоговым" антуражем полностью выбивался из общего дружного хора VA-шников. Самый жручий до CPU из всех представленных, в чем несомненно "заслуга" CMT, ну и насчет alias-free все как полагается.
CMT оставляет двойственное впечатление: с одной стороны осцилляторы по отдельности в плане aliasing-а ведут себя гламурненько, но вот, например, самовозбуждение фильтров anti-aliasing почему-то обошел стороной. Помогает как всегда работа на повышенной частоте... (если уж вам совсем свободных ресурсов девать больше не куда ))

Отличный тест (сама идея)... но Хард так слабо представлен =) Андромеду бы, Муг... живой аналог. Ну может как нибудь в другой раз.
